April Great Pond Cleanup

Join Kenney’s/McCabe Beach Civic Association, Group for the East End and the Town of Southold for a cleanup at Great Pond in Southold. Meet at Lake Court, off Lake Drive, and we’ll continue cutting phragmites along the shoreline! Volunteers will help remove phragmites, an invasive species also known as common reed, to help restore this critical habitat and encourage native plant regrowth.

WHAT: Great Pond Cleanup

WHEN: Saturday, April 18th 10 AM - 1 PM, raindate Sunday, April 19th

WHERE: Meet at Lake Court, off Lake Drive in Southold

Tools will be available; you’re encouraged to bring your own if you have them: brush cutters, hedge trimmers, loppers and weed whackers are all good options. Bring work gloves, sunscreen and plenty of water. Note these recommendations from Suffolk County Health Services on tick borne disease prevention.

This habitat restoration project is made possible by funding awarded to the Town of Southold by a Long Island Sound Futures Fund, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant.
